Purpose and Philosophy
Stewards Foundation is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to serving and assisting assemblies located in the United States, gathered unto the name of the Lord Jesus Christ alone and organized in the pattern outlined in the New Testament. Those assemblies which have chosen to become members of the corporation (in a legal sense) elect a board of trustees to govern Stewards Foundation.
Stewards Foundation has a unique ministry to part of the body of Christ. Our Statement of Faith and Service Guidelines describe the assemblies we serve. We are not a governing body over these autonomous assemblies and exercise no authority over their elders, who are responsible to the Lord Jesus Christ directly for their service to His church.
Our programs attempt to provide assistance to these assemblies in doing the work God has called them to do. We currently have two programs which assemblies participate in:
1) Loan Program for assembly building projects
2) Healthcare Assistance Plan for full-time commended workers and their families
Our Loan Program invests in the Lord’s work by lending funds to assemblies for building projects, secured by mortgages on chapel properties. This program allows individuals and assemblies to participate by purchasing demand notes, with the principal reinvested into loans. Such invested funds account for about 20% of the total outstanding loans. The remainder of the funds which are loaned out were derived primarily from the sale proceeds of the former Stewards Foundation hospitals in 1982.
Our Healthcare Assistance Plan provides eligible full-time commended workers and their families with a gift each year to assist with their expenses for health-care insurance premiums. This program is primarily funded by income from the loan program.
By making these programs available, the intent of Stewards Foundation is to assist God’s people in carrying out the ministries He has called them to in their local assemblies. We desire to live up to our name as stewards of the resources God has entrusted to us. Our earnest hope is that our programs will cause assemblies and their commended workers to give thanks to God for His provision.
